Here’s what you missed at #HootUpMKT

valerie joy deveza hootup makatiFor you who don’t know me, I live and breathe social media. I believe that social media has brought everyone closer despite geographical barriers and is now an indispensable strategy in marketing and communications.

Contrary to what majority of people think, social media is not about replacing real world connections but enhancing them in so many ways and is basically the reason why Hootsuite, a social media dashboard with over 9 million users (and still counting), created Hootups.

A Hootup is a free event organized by Hootsuite users with the aim to connect social media professionals, bloggers, online marketing professionals, and like-minded individuals to network, share experiences and discuss social media best practices in a relaxed and fun environment.

#HootUpMKT is the second Hootup in the country, next to #HootUpMNL that was held last June 27, 2014. It was organized by Christian Melanie Lee, a good friend, a Freelance Social Media Writer and fellow Hootsuite Ambassador.

Despite the rain and crazy Makati traffic, a handful of excited and happy people made it to the venue, ready to connect and meet industry peers. Indeed, it was a great opportunity to shake hands and exchange stories with fellow Hootsuite ambassadors whom I usually only meet via Twitter and Facebook.

The first speaker was Marites “Zheyme” Manahan. She’s the SEO Specialist Head at IDD, and another fellow Hootsuite Amabassador. Zheyme gave the essential introduction to Hootsuite and tips on how to use it to your advantage.

She was followed by Sir Joey Alarilla, Director of Social Media at Tribal DDB Philippines. Sir Joey’s presentation was all about the power of listening and its importance in creating engaging social media content base on your target audience’s needs. As well as protecting your brand image through mindful sharing of information and customer response.

As the third and last speaker, I got to share social media time savings tips for busy bloggers.

It was really fun meeting fellow Hootsuite users face to face! Special shoutout to these incredible people
– @eccentricmelai, @AngelaNacpil and @JhonelleUy!

Congratulations to all the organizers for a job well done. And thank you Hootsuite APAC for the support (and the swags ofcourse)!

Till the next #HootUp!
